LINEN HALL LIBRARY, BELFAST – SPORTS COLLECTION
The Linen Hall Library was founded in 1788 and is the oldest Library in Belfast. It is world renowned for its unique collections in the field of Irish and Local Studies.
The Library holds an extensive range of sports material which is currently dispersed throughout its many collections. In recognition of the central role that sport plays, at both a local and national level, plans are in place to create a dedicated sports archive which will celebrate the importance and diversity of Northern Ireland’s sporting community and make accessible the documented history of the many clubs and individuals across the country.
As well as bringing together all the existing sports books and records into one unique collection, the Library would like to take this opportunity to develop and enrich these sports holdings, however, to achieve this it will need the support of the local sporting community. The Library is keen to expand its collection of boxing material and I am writing to ask if you or your club would like to contribute items to this archive such as the organisation’s history, minute books or sporting ephemera?
All records and publications will be held in the Linen Hall Library and will be readily available for both researchers and the public to consult. By donating items to the sports archive, you and /or your club will be contributing towards creating a more complete history of sport in Northern Ireland and ensuring that its legacy will be preserved for future generations.
If you are interested in donating material or you would like further information, please contact Monica Cash on firstname.lastname@example.org or telephone (028) 90321707 (Monday to Wednesday).
